Killarney Golf and Fishing Club will play host to the Irish Open next year between July 29th and August 1st 2010. The renowned setting held off competition from other prestigious venues such as Carton House, Mount Juliet and Fota Island.

The last time the Irish Open visited Killarney was in 1992 when Nick Faldo won two years in a row. The event is expected to attract the biggest names in golf including three time major winner Padraig Harrington and other players who will be in the chase to secure a place on the European Ryder team, which will be announced a few weeks later.

Robert Finnegan, CEO of the communications company 3, who are sponsoring the event said “Killarney’s Killeen is a magnificent course in an idyllic setting and we expect many of the world’s top golfers to take part in what will be a magical weekend in one of the world’s great beauty spots.”

The prestigious event is ideal for broadcasting Killarney and Ireland as one of the best golfing destinations worldwide and will bring a welcome boost to the local economy.
